Barre is back! According to Harper’s Bazaar

The new year kicked off with a strong message from Harper’s Bazaar, Barre is back baby, and I’m happy to say, probably stronger than before.
The workout the combines Pilates, strength training, mobility and steady state cardio delivers the sculpting and toning effects of your dreams.
Derived from elements of traditional ballet, which includes piles, curtsey lunges, élèves and kickbacks, dominates the lower body segments of the workout to target, plump and lift the glutes, while simultaneously strengthening the body’s stabilizer muscles located in your core and glutes. Created by German dancer Lotte-Berk in 1959, the exercise focuses on rehabilitation movement for the lower back and core, to help the heel self and other dancers recover from injury.
Since then, the exercise has found its way into the fitness studios and boutiques, that is much more ballet-inspired now than its original origins. The workout has transformed into a strength endurance routine, that tones the body and elongates the muscles. It is recognizable by its high repetitions, tempo-based movements and core activating sequences. Known for sculpting, but also aiding in joint and muscle-pain prevention, Barre strengthens the small stabilizers within the body, helping to maintain good posture, body alignment and balance.
If you’re looking for a full body workout that builds lean muscles, while taking a health-centered approach, look no further than Barre. As we often like to say at Curated By Britt, the workout is designed to build strong but plump glutes.
